SUCRE CITY TOUR – HALF DAY

Code CTHH.HDX Duration: 3 ½ hours

This condensed city tours allows us to visit on foot most of Sucre’s main attractions, while also enjoying its laid-back atmosphere and the colonial downtown (a UNESCO World Heritage).

Pick up at hotel. We head towards Sucre’s central square, Plaza 25 de Mayo, at the very center of the historical downtown. Most of the architectural and historic landmarks are in the plaza or its immediate surroundings.

We visit:

  • Casa de la Libertad (the Freedom House): home to the independence declaration of Bolivia and its first parliament. The building also hosts an interesting museum of Bolivian history.
  • the Cathedral: one of the most ornate and beautiful churches in Bolivia. Recently restored, we can climb the tower for some views of the city.
  • San Felipe Neri temple: another major architectural landmarks, the temple also hosts a large internal patio and large rooftop terraces, great for views and photo opps.

We then walk to the Central market, a three-storied roofed market where we can taste local street food and beverages. On the way to the market, we see the Santo Domingo Church, which host the Liberty Bell, a broken bell that tolled during the independence rebellion.

We walk up to the Recoleta, possibly the location of the original first settlement of what was to become the city of Sucre and from where we can enjoy the best views of the city and its surroundings. The walk itself brings us through less known portions of the traditional colonial downtown and other less known landmarks, like the San Francisco de Asis convent, and the nearby haunted alley.

Given the relatively small size of Sucre’s historical downtown, the city tour is all on foot. Different options and car transportation can be easily arranged, if needed.
The service can be provided in Spanish, English, Portuguese and Italian.

SUCRE CITY TOUR – WHOLE DAY

Code CTHH.WDX Duration: 6 ½ hours

This city tours allows us to visit on foot most of Sucre’s main attractions and to enjoy its laid-back atmosphere and the colonial downtown (a UNESCO World Heritage), plus a short drive to the unique dinosaurs footsteps collection in Cal Orck’o (about 5 kms from the city center).

Pick up at hotel. We head towards Sucre’s central square, Plaza 25 de Mayo, at the very center of the historical downtown. Most of the architectural and historic landmarks are in the plaza or its immediate surroundings.

  • San Felipe Neri temple: another major architectural landmarks, the temple also hosts a large internal patio and large rooftop terraces, great for views and photo opportunities

Just a few blocks from the central plaza, we visit the Cemetery, that hosts several monumental tombs and smaller, regular tombs designed so that families can leave offers and comfort items for their dead.

Around noon, we hop our private transportation to head to Cal Orck’o (“limestone hill” in Quechua), an impressive vertical cliff covered with thousands of dinosaurs footprints from several species. This is considered to be one of the largest, if not the largest, collections of fossil footsteps in the world and the mid-day guided tour has ideal light conditions to see the footprints and also allows us to get nearer to them.

Back to Sucre, we walk to the Central market, a three-storied roofed market where we can taste local street food and beverages. On the way to the market, we see the Santo Domingo Church, which host the Liberty Bell, a broken bell that tolled during the independence rebellion.
